Museum  is searching for personal items from the Polish Children's Camp for the museum's new Polish room display, to be created by TV series Heritage Rescue!
Heritage Rescue is a factual television series about local museums and heritage sites in New Zealand, which sheds light on the local history and personal stories of the collections, and assists with problems that small museums might have like displays, conservation and research. We bring in museum experts, conservationists and historians to contribute in these ways.At the Pahīatua Museum we will be extending and improving the Polish displays, creating a Polish room to explain and celebrate the Polish presence in Pahīatua. We want to try to connect the Polish and Pahīatua communities through the museum, and tell personal stories that explain these experiences
The Pahīatua Museum currently has no objects that relate to the Polish Children's Camp, only information and photos. As part of our collaboration with the museum, we would love to introduce personal items from Polish children that were brought to New Zealand or given in the camp.
Having these personal objects would help people visualise and empathise with this history more, and understand what a wonderful thing New Zealand did by welcoming the children.
We would welcome all items of this personal nature relating to the journey to New Zealand or the camp. These could be toys, suitcases, letters, clothing or anything else.
We would of course welcome donations, but given the treasured nature of these items we would be very grateful with temporary loans of these objects. They could be cared for in the museum for 6 or 12 months, and returned safely to their owners at the end of this time.
We welcome and encourage any questions! Please contact Justine at / 021 025 28481 or Emma at
Please note we are on a very limited timeframe and will need to pick these items up for the museum before the  3rd of March.
